Police are searching for a youth who pistol-whipped and shot a Port Hueneme teen-ager Friday afternoon.
Police arrested one suspect, Chad Keller, 18, of Oxnard in connection with the crime. Keller was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy and was released on $20,000 bail.
Police said Anthony Fontes, 17, of Port Hueneme was bike-riding with his girlfriend in the 1400 block of Park Avenue when Keller and the suspect being sought drove past in a white pickup and circled back.
Authorities said the second suspect then got out of the truck, hit Fontes with a pistol and shot at him as he fled. The bullet grazed Fontes, who was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.
“He had a bullet hole in his baggy shirt. That’s how close it came,” Port Hueneme Sgt. Jerry Beck said.
Beck said the incident was sparked by a dispute between Keller and the victim. Beck said the suspect still at large apparently tried to support Keller by attacking Fontes. Beck said the suspect being sought is an identified gang member, but would not say if the incident was gang-related.
