SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : BASEBALL / DIVISION III : Garden Grove Wins, 7-3, in Eight Innings

Gabe Maldanado led Garden Grove with a home run, double and three runs batted in as the Argonauts defeated University in eight innings, 7-3, in a Southern Section Division III first-round game Friday at University High.
Kevin Loken went the distance, striking out seven to earn the victory for Garden Grove (14-9).
In other Division III games:
Irvine 3, Costa Mesa 0--Matt Ward pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts to lead Irvine (19-7).
Joey O’Toole drove in two runs in the first inning with a double to left-center, scoring Shaun Wooley and David Hongslo. Costa Mesa finished 12-11.
La Quinta 8, Antelope Valley 2--Charlie Tuggle went three for four with three RBIs for top-seeded La Quinta (24-3-1). Craig Kuzmic had two hits, including his 12th home run of the season.
Craig Jones (11-0) pitched a four-hitter for Antelope Valley (9-15). La Quinta will face Norwalk next.
Santa Margarita 10, Lakewood Mayfair 1--Ryan Reightley (9-1) pitched five scoreless innings, Paul Nicotra had two hits and three RBIs and Craig Harrison had a two-run single for Santa Margarita (19-7).
