Remembering on Memorial Day
Families and friends gathered at gravesides in cemeteries throughout the San Fernando Valley on Sunday to remember their loved ones.
Dozens placed flowers and miniature American flags the day before Memorial Day on graves at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park, the Forest Lawn cemeteries in Hollywood Hills and Glendale and at other cemeteries.
Memorial Day traditionally honors the dead from all wars. But it also is a time to remember family and friends who didn’t die in battles. Also known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated in the South after the Civil War.
