English, Not British

In his review of Mel Gibson’s “Braveheart” (May 24), Peter Rainer keeps referring to William Wallace’s fight with the British. He means the English. Wallace and King Edward I were both British. The island of Britain includes England, Scotland and Wales, and is by no means synonymous with England. As an Englishman who lived in Scotland for many years I am acutely conscious of this!
