BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Two More Orioles on Disabled List
- Share via
The Baltimore Orioles put third baseman Jeff Manto and reliever Gene Harris on the 15-day disabled list.
Manto, who gained the starting job May 17, suffered a pulled left hamstring Sunday in the Orioles’ 10-1 victory over Boston. Harris, acquired from Philadelphia last weekend, has a strained right elbow.
To replace Harris, the Orioles purchased the contract of right-hander John DeSilva from triple-A Rochester. DeSilva, 7-5 with a 3.91 ERA in 14 games with Rochester, is expected to start Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Infielder and former major-league starter Jeff Huson will replace Manto on the 25-man roster.
Given the timing of Harris’ injury--exactly one week after being obtained in a trade for Andy Van Slyke--there was some question as to whether the Orioles received damaged goods. The right-hander was on the disabled list last season from May 28 to July 21 with a sore elbow. But Harris appeared healthy in his three appearances with the Orioles. He pitched two-thirds of an inning Saturday night, giving up a run and two hits.
