Valley Focus : Sunland-Tujunga : Victor in Race for ‘Mayor’ to Be Named

The winner of Sunland-Tujunga’s hotly contested honorary mayor contest will be announced at the end of the Rotary Club’s annual Independence Parade.
The parade, which will be held from 10 a.m to noon July 4, will begin at Mt. Gleason Avenue and Summitrose Street, head down Foothill Boulevard and wind up at Sunland Park, where the honorary mayor will be named.
One of the candidates for the mayor’s post is Farley, a dog owned by Michael Lucas. Also in the running are Wolfgang Schweinberger, a chef, and Dick Starr, an AT & T executive.
The winner of the ceremonial post must sell more $1 tickets, issued by the Chamber of Commerce, than the other candidates. Half the proceeds go to the chamber, while the other half goes to the candidates’ favorite charities.
Other highlights of the festival, which will last until 5 p.m., include an antique car and equestrian show. Games, music, food and drinks will also be offered. The Los Angeles Police Department’s museum van will be on hand, and information about local service groups and businesses will be available at booths and displays.
The antique cars will be judged by the Lions Club, and the equestrian units will be judged by an official from the California State Horsemen’s Assn.
