CHP Prepares for Holiday Weekend

The California Highway Patrol will have every available officer on duty over the Fourth of July holiday weekend--a maximum-enforcement period that began at 6 p.m. Friday and concludes at midnight Tuesday, officials said.
“We’re looking for primary collision-causing factors,” Officer Staci Morse said. “Things like speed, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, and of course, driving under the influence.”
Morse said CHP officials have restricted days off and personal time for its cadre of officers stationed in Ventura County over the 102-hour, four-day crackdown.
“Every available resource will be working during the maximum-enforcement period,” Morse said.
CHP officers arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence during a similar crackdown over the Fourth of July holiday weekend last year, including eight people in the first 12 hours.
But the number of arrests for the period dropped from 33 in 1993.
