We publish advice and insights from all sorts of investment and personal finance experts--much of it contradictory. So to find out what works in real life, we went to the source, asking our readers to recount their all-time best financial decisions. From hundreds of letters, faxes and e-mailings, we’ve selected a few of the most interesting to publish or excerpt. Thanks to everyone who contributed.
Time and the Big Mac
The best financial decision I have made was most definitely when I was 12 years old, upon the recommendation of my father. I purchased a modest number of shares in McDonald’s Corp. (because I liked Big Macs) with money I earned over the summer cutting lawns and whatnot. Not only has the stock done extremely well the last 18 years, but I learned that time is always on the investor’s side. And the longer one stays with solid companies, the more he or she will outpace all other forms of investments.
