California Moves Against Ostrich Promoters: State regulators have halted fund-raising by Trans-American Ostrich Traders Inc., a Coachella Valley ostrich farm promoter that has taken in more than $7 million for 17 limited partnerships from 600 investors nationwide. Promoters Larry Earp and David Silver placed the partnerships in bankruptcy last month, listing themselves as creditors, a California Department of Corporations spokesman said. The two are seeking reimbursement for bird care. The promoters blamed a dive in ostrich prices for the action. Earp and Silver, the operation’s general partners, were served with a desist and refrain order Saturday. Earp denied any wrongdoing and charged that the action was prompted by a dissident group of investors.
