SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : City OKs Campaign to Promote Downtown
- Share via
A $9,300 campaign to encourage residents and outsiders to shop and dine in downtown won approval this week from the City Council.
The “Shop and Dine” will include direct mail, signs in neighboring cities and information packets for hotel guests.
Councilman Gil Jones said the program “was not the answer” but a good first step for improving the business climate. The historic city’s business district lacks some of the big-name commercial punch found in nearby places such as Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel.
“It’s a small contribution toward a giant need we have in this community,” Jones said.
Mayor Carolyn Nash said a survey conducted last year revealed that most San Juan Capistrano residents didn’t do their shopping in town.
“We’re hopeful that this will bring a lot of people downtown,” Nash said.
