Spoils of Victory Seem a Little Much

Congratulations to Jim Harrick for his long-overdue respect [July 16], but thumbs down for the lottery jackpot that accompanies an NCAA championship. It is so distorted to watch adults, from the President on down, fawn over college kids who majored in basketball and got lucky (Edney’s basket) and won it all.

The title isn’t enough, these students now get the keys to the city, get treated like icons, and our youth get reinforced that winning is everything. No wonder schools, coaches, players (and fans) are all part of a seamy hired-gun mentality whose only goal is winning--and perks.
