Navy officials have announced that information about ongoing environmental cleanup efforts at the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center is now available for public review at Oxnard Library.
A repository has been established at the library, 251 S. A St., which outlines the Navy’s cleanup efforts on the sprawling base, said Navy spokeswoman Linda Wadley. Officials have discovered heavy metals and other toxics on the base.
Wadley also said that members of the public can learn more about the Navy’s environmental restoration efforts at the Seabee base and at the nearby Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station by attending meetings of the Oxnard Plain Restoration Advisory Board.
The board includes Navy and other federal and state officials in addition to local authorities. The restoration board meets the first Thursday of each month at the Orvene Carpenter Center, 550 Park Ave., Port Hueneme.
For information about the library materials or the restoration board, call Wadley at 982-4493.
