The youths were returning from an overnight camping trip when the accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. in San Bernardino County, authorities said.
The driver, a 17-year-old from Anaheim who suffered minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the California Highway Patrol said.
The dead youths were identified as Jonothan Croweagle Fabbro, 16, of Garden Grove; Steven Richard Bender, 18, of Orange, and John Thornton, 18, of Anaheim.
