ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — With donations pouring in from as far away as Colombia, the United Arab Emirates raised $43 million for besieged fellow Muslims in Bosnia-Herzegovina in a radio and television fund-raising blitz.
The oil-rich Gulf Arab state raised the cash in a 13 1/2-hour campaign that ended Saturday. People across the country donated money, clothes, cars, jewelry, paintings, antiques and even a horse and a camel.
The largest single donation was made by the emirates’ defense minister, Dubai Crown Prince Sheik Mohammed ibn Rashid al Maktum, who gave $15 million.
