DIGEST : Campbell Has Enough, Resigns Monroe Post
- Share via
Kevin Campbell, baseball coach at Monroe High the past 10 seasons, has resigned to spend more time with his family.
Campbell, who will still teach at Monroe, said assistant coach Rick Sorrentino is likely to get the job.
Sorrentino, 25, coached the Monroe summer team and will teach at Monroe in the fall.
Monroe also lost catcher David Lusk and outfielder Josh Miranda, both junior starters, who have transferred to Kennedy. Lusk batted .360 and drove in 30 runs and Miranda hit .451 and stole 28 bases for the Vikings last season.
Lusk said both players were denied entrance to Kennedy as freshmen, but took advantage of California’s open enrollment law, now in its second year.

The last two Valley players in the main draw of the U.S. Tennis Assn. National Junior Championships were eliminated in the round of 16.
