Lollapalooza organizer Perry Farrell and his band Porno for Pyros made a surprise appearance on the second and closing day of the festival’s stint at Irvine Meadows. Surrounded by tiki lamps and dressed in a flowered shirt on the third stage, Farrell led the band through a Hawaiian-style set Tuesday that featured punk guru Mike Watt sitting in on bass.
James Taylor is joining the Pacific Symphony! Not “sweet baby James,” though. We’re talking about an erstwhile horn player for the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera, who has been named third horn here. John Reynolds of La Crescenta, associate principal horn of the Pacific since 1987 and acting principal since 1994, gains tenure as principal horn. David Parmeter, 24, of Long Beach joins the bass section. Auditions were held in June.
