School-age children in Simi Valley whose parents work from dawn till dusk can hang out before and after school at any of seven clubs set up by the Rancho Simi Recreation & Park District.
The Simi Before and After School Club programs at Crestview, Garden Grove, Knolls, Madera, Mountain View, Township and Vista elementary schools are open and accepting children beginning this week.
The program, which costs about $4 per hour, opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes at 6:15 p.m. Up to 600 children enrolled last year.
“It’s a way for parents to have a safe and fun place for their kids,” said Diana Riley, recreation supervisor for the district. “Some parents do drop their kids off that early and [the children] stay until we close.”
Activities range from basketball and other outdoor activities to music, arts and crafts, and homework.
“It really depends on the leader at that particular site,” Riley said.
Registration is open throughout the school year. For more information, call the district at 584-4400.
