Defensive end Richard Dent, second on the NFL’s career sack list and the most valuable player of the 1986 Super Bowl, agreed to a one-year contract to rejoin the Chicago Bears.
“It was a tough thing to leave, but it’s great to be back,” said Dent, 34, who left the Bears after the 1993 season in a contract dispute.
The Bears think Dent can provide leadership to a young defensive line and bolster a below-average pass rush.
“You can never have enough defensive linemen,” Coach Dave Wannstedt said. “We’re just trying to get a little better.”

The Texas Supreme Court turned down an appeal from the club in a case involving Scott Randall Ankrom, whose knee was injured in a 1989 exhibition game against the Denver Broncos.
