Four-Star Films : ‘Mean Streets’
This is a very personal tour of a very modern hell by Martin Scorsese, who re-creates the rotting, violent heart of Little Italy (from one angle, at least) on some B-movie sound stages. Robert De Niro (as the epochal yahoo Johnny Boy, pictured) and Harvey Keitel (as a crook worried about God) are among the lost souls in this low-budget 1973 masterpiece (KCOP Tuesday at 4:30 a.m.).
