Virginia Majewski; Violist for Glendale Symphony

Virginia Majewski, 88, a Los Angeles violist who performed on chamber music recordings, with studio orchestras and with the Glendale Symphony. Born in Texas, Ms. Majewski studied at the Eastman School of Music and the Curtis Institute. In 1939, she became principal and solo violist with the MGM studio orchestra, one of the first women to hold such a position. One of her solos for the screen was in the Bernard Hermann score for John Houseman’s 1952 film “On Dangerous Ground.” Performing with the American Art Quartet and in various chamber music recording sessions, Ms. Majewski worked with such renowned musicians as Jascha Heifetz, William Primrose and Gregor Piatigorsky. She was principal violist with the Glendale Symphony for many years. On Oct. 9 in Los Angeles.
