VENTURA : College Unveils Achievement Plaque
- Share via
State Sen. Jack O’Connell helped unveil the Guthrie Hall of Achievement plaque at Ventura College on Tuesday afternoon--a perpetual plaque recognizing those who have contributed to the college and the community.
O’Connell was honored last spring as part of the first group of inductees into the Hall of Achievement, said Jeanette Villanueva-Walker, a spokeswoman for the college.
O’Connell, elected in 1994 to the 18th State Senate District, which includes western Ventura County, attended Ventura College before earning a bachelor’s degree in history from Cal State Fullerton.
In addition to O’Connell, the plaque records the names of Joanne Garcia, who worked for the college for 43 years; Bob Gowder, a teacher, coach and administrator who led the school’s swimming program, and George McNeely, a teacher of agriculture and economics who held numerous administrative positions during his 32 years at Ventura College.
Other names will be added to the plaque each spring as more individuals are inducted into the Hall of Achievement.
