PREP FOOTBALL / OLYMPIC LEAGUE : Priestley, Brethren Christian Roll Past Ontario Christian

Brethren Christian quarterback Dave Priestley led a balanced offensive attack as the Warriors defeated the Ontario Christian Knights, 35-14, Saturday night at Artesia High.

Priestley was 18 of 24 for 228 yards, including two touchdowns, as the injury-plagued Warriors (4-4, 1-2) made easy work of the Knights (4-4, 0-3).

“The injuries, at first, got us down,” Priestley said. “After tonight, though, we realized we are able to play with [the injured players].”

A big part of Brethren Christian’s offense was the versatility of fullback Daniel Muilenburg. Muilenburg had 207 total yards, including three touchdowns, one of which was a 50-yard catch and run on a screen pass from Priestley.

“He’s a great athlete,” Priestley said of Muilenburg. “I think he has some of the best hands in the league for a fullback. He runs well and I know I can always dump a pass off to him.”

The victory was the Warriors’ first Olympic League victory. Muilenburg credits Priestley’s ability to mix up the offense for the victory.

“He had an excellent game,” Muilenburg said. “He spread the ball around and that was key.”

Said Warriors Coach Ken Sharrar: “We needed this win big time. If you’re going to go to the playoffs, you need to play well in league.”
