COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine’s Vu Advances in Singles, Doubles at Regionals

UC Irvine’s Danny Vu defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Simon Kurth by default to advance to today’s main-draw singles in the Southern California Men’s Tennis Regionals at UC Irvine. Teammate Khaled Husseini lost to Tim Truebenbach, of UC San Diego, 7-5, 6-2.
Vu also advanced to the doubles main draw with partner Lars Mohn by defeating Santa Barbara’s Joe Barberie and John Bowerbank, 8-4, in the qualifying doubles.
In the semifinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament:
Azusa Pacific 3, Southern California College 2--Katrina Bohn and Lori Van Herk scored in the final two minutes, but the season is over for SCC (11-8). Azusa Pacific is 7-12-1.
In nonconference volleyball:
CS Northridge 3, UC Irvine 1--Carrie Kapfenberg had 24 kills as CS Northridge defeated UC Irvine, 13-15, 15-5, 15-11, 15-8, to pick up its second victory of the season.
Holli Hansen had 15 kills for Northridge (2-24).
Popi Edwards had 21 kills for UC Irvine (4-17).
Long Beach State 3, Loyola Marymount 0--Brita Schwerm had 18 kills and Misty May, formerly of Newport Harbor High, had 11 kills and 19 digs for the 49ers (16-5), which won, 15-3, 15-11, 15-8.
