A Cal State Northridge benefit show last weekend raised approximately $3,100 for a new campus counseling center serving surrounding communities, it was announced Monday.
More than 200 people attended the “Comedy Frolics” event held Saturday and Sunday at CSUN, said Joyce Medley, director of the 10-month-old Community Counseling and Resource Institute.
Medley said funds raised at the event will be used to support a variety of low-cost counseling services for adults, children, couples, families and groups. All services are available to residents of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Operated through CSUN’s Educational Psychology and Counseling Department, the institute is funded primarily through grants. “Right now, we’re struggling to stay alive,” Medley said. She added that graduate students in the department serve as counselors under the supervision of licensed professionals.
The institute is located in the Center for Student Success in CSUN’s new Business and Education complex. For more information, call (818) 885-2568.
