DIVISION V
Western (11-0) vs. Santa Margarita (8-3), Saddleback College, 7:30 p.m.
Coach Jim Howell speculated that Western’s less-than-spectacular outing last week in a 17-7 victory over Canyon might have been a result of too much celebration over the school’s undefeated regular-season finish. In retrospect, the Pioneers weren’t that bad, particularly defensively, where they have shined most of the season. Twice they found the Comanches inside their 15-yard line in the second half and twice they held them. Which sets up an interesting confrontation with the Eagles, who average 32.6 points and who defeated Tustin in the opening round of the playoffs, 42-22. Western has given up an average of only 10 points a game.
