Head to Cuyamaca for Catfish Haven

Catfish at most Southland lakes are becoming sluggish and inactive with the cooler nights, but those at Lake Cuyamaca, a high mountain reservoir east of San Diego, are just beginning to feed.
“As crazy as this may sound, some of the best catfishing of the year occurs during the next couple of months,” lake ranger Hugh Marx said in his weekly report. “In fact, some of the best days are when the water temperature gets below 40 degrees. The big channel cats move to deep water down by the dam and it is like fishing in a rain barrel.”
Marx said “the first dam catfish” were pulled out Saturday.
