Newport Corp. Acquires Minneapolis Unit

IRVINE — Newport Corp. said it has agreed to acquire MikroPrecision Instruments, Inc., a privately held manufacturer of high-precision positioning and measuring equipment and systems for a variety of high-technology markets. The acquisition of the Minneapolis-area company for an undisclosed amount of cash is expected to close early next month.
MikroPrecision Instruments, which was founded in 1984, will operate as a Newport subsidiary. Newport Corp. manufactures precision equipment for scientists and engineers who develop technology involving lasers and optics.
