After years of planning, a $2.6-million senior citizens center in City of Commerce is about to be built.
City officials and senior citizens broke ground Tuesday evening for the facility, scheduled to be completed in 1997, next to City Hall on the northwest corner of Jillson Street and Commerce Way.
The center has 400 members and has outgrown its current location, according to Ann Cruz, the senior center supervisor. In addition, the new center will be more centrally located, she said.
