Vietnam confirmed that a former high-ranking Communist Party member and a leading academic had been arrested and were being investigated for alleged disclosure of state secrets. Sources said Nguyen Xuan Tu, an academic, was arrested after making outspoken comments in an interview with a Vietnamese-language radio station based in California. Le Van Quy is said to have protested his expulsion from the Communist Party for supporting Hoang Minh Chinh, an outspoken 76-year-old Communist intellectual.
