Taking Second Look at Titles for USC, UCLA
- Share via
Pedro Garcia’s reporting of history and facts (Viewpoint, Jan. 20) concerning national championships at UCLA and USC is incorrect. Before making statements about the number of national championships, he should know that the record books report the following figures as of January: UCLA owns 88 national championships (65 men’s and 23 women’s) and USC owns 81 national championships (68 men’s and 13 women’s). Using Pedro’s logic, UCLA is No. 1 in L.A. and in the country, as it boasts the most national championships of any school in the nation. Furthermore, UCLA has won a total of 34 national championships since 1980, USC has won 13. Pedro better check his statistical source as UCLA is continuing to increase its lead over USC.
