COUNTYWIDE : Domestic-Violence Team May Continue

The Ventura County district attorney’s office is in line for state money that will allow an innovative program for prosecuting domestic violence to continue for a second year.
The program, which is funded with a $110,000 state grant, is designed to beef up the district attorney’s sexual-assault and family-protection unit with an additional prosecutor, a victim advocate and a part-time investigator, according to Chief Deputy Dist. Atty. Lela Henke-Dobroth.
Under the program, three employees work as a team on the county’s most severe domestic-violence cases.
“The program allows us to spend the time we need [to prosecute these cases],” Henke-Dobroth said. “It enhances our resources to fight . . . a growing problem.”
The funds are already approved by the state and are merely awaiting authorization from the Board of Supervisors, which is expected Tuesday, Henke-Dobroth said.
