A $21,500 grant will help Fountain Valley School District support its program to move children with disabilities into regular classrooms, officials said.
“Fountain Valley has a long history of ‘mainstreaming’ students with special needs,” said Gina Nimmo, director of special education. The grant is from the Steelcase Foundation of Grand Rapids, Mich.
The first part of the program will be teacher training, in which each school will select a team of regular education and special education instructors.
The 11 teams will participate in a summer workshop with a consultant experienced in inclusive education and will receive further training during the school year.
