Corona del Mar Routs Santa Margarita in Tennis

Corona del Mar, the top-ranked team in Orange County, rolled past No. 8 Santa Margarita, 16-2, in a Sea View League boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Corona del Mar.

Boris Turkich won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, Taylor Dent won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, and John Cappello won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, in singles for Corona del Mar.

In other Sea View League matches:

Woodbridge 15, Newport Harbor 3--Tyler Smith and Tyler Call swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Woodbridge (9-3, 4-1), ranked fourth in the county.

El Toro 10, Irvine 8--Rafael Gale won two of three singles sets and Kevin Henderson and Sal Sarabosing won the final doubles set, 7-6, to clinch the victory for host El Toro (2-11, 1-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 18, Costa Mesa 0--Joey Freedman swept at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for third-ranked University (9-2, 3-0). Greg Biorkman also swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 15, Trabuco Hills 3--Reid Spiegl and Mike Stevens swept at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, for host Dana Hills (10-0, 3-0), which is ranked second.

Mission Viejo 13, Capistrano Valley 5--Eric Bachelor didn’t lose a game at No. 1 singles for Mission Viejo (6-4, 2-1).

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 13, Marina 5--Freshman Tom Lloyd swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for visiting Esperanza (6-5, 2-2).

Los Alamitos 14, Fountain Valley 4--Cody Jackson swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, for sixth-ranked Los Alamitos (9-1, 4-0) at Old Ranch.

In Sunset League golf:

Huntington Beach 329, Edison 357--Perry Dickey shot a two-under-par 61 at SeaCliff Country Club for Huntington Beach (3-6, 1-2) in a 16-hole match. Teammate Tony Mendoza shot par.

In nonleague golf:

Servite 194, Valencia 207--Wil Luciano shot a one-under 35 for Servite at Hacienda Country Club in La Habra Heights. He had two birdies, a bogey and six pars.

Villa Park 411, El Dorado 429--Villa Park’s Andy Clark shot an eight-over-par 79 in a nonleague match played at Green River’s Orange Course and at Western Hills.

St. Margaret’s 258, Calvary Chapel 285--Jimmy Freeman shot six-over-par 41 for St. Margaret’s (3-5) at Marbella.

At the Desert Classic golf tournament in Las Vegas:

Fountain Valley finishes fourth--Las Vegas Cimarron won with a two-day total of 806 at Painted Desert. The Barons finished fourth with a total of 880. Fountain Valley’s Eric Hird made a hole in one at the 173-yard par-3 eighth hole, using a four iron.

In Sunset League boys’ swimming:

Los Alamitos 114, Fountain Valley 66--Tim Haney won the 200 freestyle (1:47.75) and the 500 freestyle (4:52.45). Fountain Valley teammate Tim Causee won the 50 freestyle (24.65). The Griffins won all but the 50 freestyle.

In the Sunset League girls’ swimming:

Fountain Valley 118, Los Alamitos 48--Fountain Valley’s Kristi Tjoa won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.78. Tjoa also won the 200 individual medley (2:15.35). Vinessa Tjoa won the 100 freestyle for the Barons in 57.64.
