Fowlkes Might Wave Himself to Fresno

A month ago, forward Tremaine Fowlkes reportedly was set on transferring to Pepperdine if he was released from his basketball scholarship at California.
Now, according to a Cal administrator, Fowlkes is more likely to transfer to Fresno State after winning an appeal Monday before a university committee to be released from his scholarship. The Cal athletic department initially denied his request.
Jack Citrin, faculty representative for the Cal athletic department, said Fowlkes told the committee that he was interested in several schools, including Pepperdine.
“But, if I were a betting man, I’d say Fresno State is more likely,” Citrin said.
Fowlkes, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, is said to have arranged a recruiting trip to Fresno State. As of Tuesday, Pepperdine Coach Lorenzo Romar had not heard from him.

At St. Mary’s, the Pepperdine women won their ninth consecutive WCC tournament title with a 5-1 victory over San Diego in the final. The 13th-ranked Waves (16-7) defeated Gonzaga and St. Mary’s in the opening rounds.
