3-Mile Bridge Links England and Wales

Prince Charles has formally opened Britain’s longest river crossing, linking England and Wales across the Severn River estuary. The three-mile, $512-million bridge is known as the Second Severn Crossing. It is located 110 miles west of London and is just three miles downstream from the original Severn Bridge, dedicated nearly 30 years ago by Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The new toll crossing will cut two miles off the 180-mile journey from the Welsh capital, Cardiff, to London and is expected to capture about 75% of the traffic from the current Severn Bridge.
