Dutch Firm Awards Contract to Hughes

FULLERTON — Hughes Aircraft Co.’s Naval & Maritime Systems unit received a contract from Hollandse Signaalapparaten of the Netherlands for preliminary design of an anti-air warfare system for a trilateral frigate program.
Hughes said the Netherlands and Germany will use the anti-air warfare system for their new frigates. Canada also will be involved in the project. Terms of the Hughes contract were not disclosed.
Hollandse Signaalapparaten will provide system integration and engineering, while Hughes will provide software for the project. Fullerton-based Hughes Aircraft is a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp., which is a unit of General Motors Corp.
