L.A. School Chief

I could not agree more with most of your editorial on choosing a new L.A. school chief (July 24). Every effort should be made to improve our schools. However, there is one small clause to which I must object: “. . . a system that has failed many students in many ways.”

How long will society dodge responsibility for the raising of its youth? If our students have been let down, it is by all of us. Every one of us must accept our role in nurturing the next generation. Until then the “system” will struggle and fail no matter how good or bad it is. It is time to be honest with ourselves. It is Los Angeles “that has failed many students in many ways.”
