Newspaper Cool to Israeli Offer on Talks

From Times Wire Reports

Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to resume negotiations with Syria was “not serious” because it ignored the principle of trading land for peace, a government newspaper said. The daily Tishrin suggested that the proposal--made during the Israeli prime minister’s visit to Jordan on Monday--was incomplete, but the newspaper stopped short of categorically rejecting it. It said Netanyahu wants negotiations mainly to discuss Israel’s security problem in southern Lebanon and not its withdrawal from the Golan Heights, captured from Syria in 1967.
