Hasbro to Pay Fine in Deceptive-Advertising Case: The toy maker has agreed to pay a $280,000 penalty to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated an agreement not to run deceptive advertising, the agency said. In its latest case against the Pawtucket, R.I.-based toy maker, the FTC alleged that Hasbro Inc. commercials misled children into believing they could operate the “Colorblaster” paint-sprayer toy with ease. But the FTC said Hasbro used a motorized device during filming to provide the pressure needed to easily operate the toy and achieve the results depicted in the commercial. Hasbro had been charged twice before with deceptive advertising. The company paid fines in 1993 and 1978, the FTC said.
