Berman to Discuss Russian, Israeli Votes
Rep. Howard Berman will evaluate recent Russian and Israeli elections at a bagel breakfast Tuesday in Encino along with a member of the Israeli parliament, who plans to join him from Jerusalem via telephone hookup.
Berman (D-Panorama City), ranking member of the House International Relations Committee, will speak with newly elected Knesset member Yuri Shtern of the Israel B’Aliyah party.
The discussion will focus on the perceptions of the elections in Washington and explore their implications for the future, said Barbara Creme, director of the Jewish Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance, a co-sponsor of the event with Temple Valley Beth Shalom.
The Moscow-born Shtern, who helped found the Israeli Forum Assn. to establish initiatives on behalf of immigrants, is well-known for his efforts to grant Soviet Jews free immigration to Israel.
The free event starts at 8 a.m. at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd. To reserve a space, call (818) 587--3219.
