OUTLOOK

The Griffins had a great four-year run, going 50-3-1 and winning two section titles. But the party, while not over, is taking a break this season. The record-breaking unit of quarterback Kevin Feterik and receivers Tony Hartley and Stan Guyness--mainly responsible for making Los Alamitos the county’s highest scoring team last season (371 points)--have moved on to Brigham Young, Oregon and USC. What Barnes has left, and whether the Los Alamitos faithful can tolerate a rebuilding year, are the questions for 1996. Stein has the unenviable task of replacing Feterik, who merely passed for 6,222 yards and 58 touchdowns in two-plus varsity seasons. No one knows who replaces Hartley, The Times Orange County back of the year who established county records in reception yardage for a season (1,687) and a career (3,178), or Guyness, who averaged 23 yards a catch on 42 receptions. The best Griffin defender, Ohalete, may not have much to do if opponents don’t throw to his side of the field.
