CYPRESS — Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. said Thursday it is recalling as many as 93,000 luxury cars, sports cars and sports utility vehicles sold in the United States from 1991-94 because the vehicles could have faulty brake hoses.
The Mitsubishi recall comes two days after Irvine-based Mazda Motors of America Inc. said it is recalling 13,900 of its 1993-95 RX-7 sports cars because of problems with the brake vacuum hose.
Mitsubishi’s recall covers 1992-94 Diamante luxury sedans; 1993-95 Diamante Wagons equipped with anti-lock brake systems; 1991-94 3000GT sports cars with ABS brakes, and 1992-94 Montero sport utility vehicles.
The company, the U.S. import and distribution arm of Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors Corp., said it is sending owners notices to bring their vehicles to a Mitsubishi Motors dealer so that left and right front wheel-side brake hoses can be replaced.
Mazda Motor of America, a unit of Mazda Motor Corp. of Japan, also is notifying owners and asking them to bring their RX-7 models to a Mazda dealer for replacement of the vacuum hoses.
