Marine on Exercise Fatally Hit by Train

CAMP PENDLETON — A 21-year-old Marine was struck and killed by a train Thursday while doing routine training exercises with his unit, authorities said.
The man, who was not identified pending family notification, was near Camp Pendleton’s main gate in an area called Camp Del Mar at about 2:15 p.m. when a train hit him, Camp Pendleton’s Janice Hagar said.
Authorities did not release any other details about the circumstances of the crash as of Thursday night. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are investigating the death.
