WEST HILLS — Gene Lee’s 31-yard field goal with no time left earned Chaminade High an 18-18 tie with Thousand Oaks on Friday night at Chaminade.
Lee’s kick was the climax of a drive that began Ryan Tardif of Thousand Oaks (2-0-1) was stopped a foot short of the goal on fourth down with 2 minutes 45 seconds to play.
The Eagles’ drive almost died soon after it began, but quarterback Ray Rodriguez hit Justin Stewart with a nine-yard completion on fourth and four for a first down at the Chaminade 27.
Rodriguez hit tight end Brett Reynolds for completions of 35 and 18 yards before the march stalled.
“We got precisely what we deserved,” Thousand Oaks Coach Mike Kelly said. “When you can’t score from the two-yard-line and then let the other team go 98 yards. . . .”
Chaminade sacked Scott McEwan six times, but McEwan’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Barrett Grindle gave the Lancers an 18-15 lead with nine minutes left.
Steven Hoo gained 186 yards in 25 carries for Chaminade (1-1-1).
