U.S. Calls Myanmar Visa Move ‘Ludicrous’

The United States dismissed as “ludicrous” a clampdown by the Myanmar government on entry visas for U.S. citizens and said it was “not going to matter one bit” to anyone in the U.S. government. State Department spokesman Nicholas Burns charged that Myanmar military authorities had “made fools of themselves” by their allegations against the U.S. Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, imposed the curbs in response to a U.S. ban, announced Thursday by President Clinton, on travel by Myanmar leaders and their families to the U.S.
