Coach: Manny Penaflor (third year).
1995-96: 18-3-2, 8-0-2 in the Golden West League; lost to Westlake Village Westlake, 1-0, in the Division I quarterfinals.
Key returners: Eddie Contreras, defender, second-team all-league, Sr.; Javier Cruz, defender, second-team all-league, Sr.; Daniel Gonzalez, midfielder, Jr.; Mario Gonzalez, midfielder, Jr.; Juan Reyes, forward, second-team Times all-county, Sr.; Jose Sorto, midfielder, first-team all-league, Sr.; Horacio Velazquez, midfielder, So.
Key newcomers: Hector Candelas, goalkeeper, So.; Addison Granillo, forward, Jr.; Miguel Ortiz, goalkeeper, So.; Humberto Rocha, forward, Sr.; Jorge Zarate, defender, Sr.
Outlook: Santa Ana has won two consecutive league titles. It returns six starters and eight lettermen, so a three-peat is a distinct possibility. The offense is solid with Reyes leading the way and the Saints should be as deep as any team in the county. Whether they can go beyond the quarterfinals in the playoffs might depend on the defense, which lost three starters to graduation and will start a sophomore--Candelas or Ortiz--at goalkeeper.
