Weizman Apologizes for Anti-Gay Remark

JERUSALEM — Israeli President Ezer Weizman apologized Monday to members of gay and lesbian groups for comparing homosexuality to alcoholism and condemning it as “completely deviant.”
“He asked to apologize for any public statement that might have offended anyone,” presidential spokesman Arieh Shumer said.
The outspoken president, in remarks that drew harsh criticism, told high school students last week that homosexuality “disgusted” him.
