Hart Breaks Out of Slump, 10-1

Eric Horvat and Cody Joyce hit home runs and Hart High broke a three-game losing streak by pounding Canyon, 10-1, Thursday in a Foothill League game at Hart.
The Indians (6-4, 2-1 in league play) were The Times’ top-ranked team in the region until losing a league game to Burroughs and being swept by El Dorado in a doubleheader last week. Hart is eighth in this week’s poll.
Andy Davidson (2-1) pitched five innings for Hart, allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out six and walking one.
Bishop Gorman 1, Kennedy 0--Matt Smith homered off Jon Garland with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning at the Bishop Gorman tournament at Las Vegas.
Garland (3-1) struck out eight and allowed two hits, both by Smith, a 6-foot-4 left-hander who had 15 strikeouts and held Kennedy (8-4) to six hits.
Calabasas 7, Santa Paula 3--Josh Goldfield hit two run-scoring doubles for the Coyotes (11-2, 2-0 in the Frontier League) at Santa Paula (1-7, 1-2).
Brian Fatur of Calabasas doubled and singled to extend his hitting streak to 24 games.
Chaminade 7, Saugus 1--Chris Gray scattered eight hits through six innings for the Eagles (8-1) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Earlier, Chaminade beat Las Vegas Chaparral, 14-2.
Sylmar 9, Bountiful (Utah) 2--Jesse Cortez had three hits, including a grand slam, for the Spartans (5-3) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Chatsworth 11, Ramona 0--Tim Weigand was three for three with two RBIs and Greg Wold drove in two runs with two doubles for the Chancellors (6-3) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Earlier, Chatsworth beat Las Vegas East, 18-4.
Highland 6, Olympus (Salt Lake City) 0--Dan O’Haver (1-2) pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Bulldogs (2-7) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Birmingham 4, University 2--Alberto Flores (3-2) pitched an eight-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Braves (7-6) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Fillmore 6, Bishop Diego 1--Antonio Tapia pitched a five-hitter for the Flashes (5-2, 2-0) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Oak Park 10, Carpinteria 3--Garrett Michaels hit two home runs and had four RBIs for the Eagles (4-3, 1-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.
Crespi 9, St. John Bosco 6--An eight-run second inning sparked the Celts (6-3) in the first round of the St. Paul tournament at Crespi.
