At the Family Winemakers of California tasting, I loved the 1994 Lava Cap Vineyard Petite Syrah from Eldorado County. It’s a big, dark, spicy, plummy, gorgeous, fantastic wine. I’m one of those people who never leave the back of the tasting table at those things; I work the hall from there. I just go up and down and taste, and they’re making some really exceptional wines--big, rich and chewy, my favorite approach.
