From Times Wire Reports
President Emamali Rakhmonov was wounded in an assassination attempt when an attacker hiding in bushes hurled a grenade at his feet. The blast killed two people and injured about 60 others. The grenade exploded after the president emerged from his car in Khodzhent, a power base for his political rivals that is 125 miles north of the capital, Dushanbe. Two suspects were arrested. Rakhmonov’s government is negotiating a peace settlement with opposition groups waging civil war in the impoverished former Soviet republic.
